Our daughter, Shelbe, was the most kindhearted, loving person. She was outgoing and never knew a stranger. She was so proud that she was going to be a mom for the first time. Shelbe had a excellent and healthy pregnancy. Her labor and delivery went smoothly. Moments after delivering her son Wyatt, she experienced an AFE and coded in my arms. They took here to surgery and removed her uterus. The bleeding from the DIC continued and she received 25 units of blood. We were finally able to see her in the ICU. She was incredibly weak and the damage to her body was too great. Sadly, she coded again and passed away in my arms.
Although Wyatt had been born before Shelbe collapsed, he had rapid breathing. He was taken to the NICU and remained there for for nearly a week to recover. Today, he is my world and looks so much like his mom. He is healthy and my little daredevil.
Not a day goes by that we don’t think of Shelbe. It has been hard adjusting to life without her. We cherish each time we can spend time with Wyatt, he was her greatest gift to us.
Each year since Shelbe passed, family and friends gather together and go floating down the river for her birthday.
